In the world of high-end replica watches, a few iconic models have come to define the industry. By looking at these watches, you can clearly trace how the replica watch market has evolved over the past few decades. These benchmark models include the Rolex Submariner, the Rolex Daytona, the Rolex Day-Date, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15400 and 15500, and the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711.

So why have these particular watches become industry standards? First, their authentic versions are incredibly popular – highly desirable pieces that many people dream of owning. This strong demand naturally drives multiple factories to compete in replicating them. As manufacturing techniques improve, customers have also become more demanding. It’s no longer enough for a replica to simply “look similar.” Buyers now expect accuracy in weight, finishing, and even movement performance to closely match the original.

Against this backdrop, these models have evolved into what the industry calls “super clones.”

Before on my blog, I’ve already covered the , the and the . Today, I’m going to introduce another model that is just as important as those three – the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15400.

The development of any super clone watch takes time, and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is no exception. Its evolution can be divided into three distinct stages:

Look Alike (2013–2016)

During this stage, the main producers were smaller factories and J12 Factory. J12’s version looked similar at a glance, but it didn’t hold up under closer inspection – it was easy to spot as a replica. The case was too thick, and the “Tapisserie” dial lacked depth and definition. Overall, it could only be described as having the general appearance of an AP.

Feel Alike (2017–2020)

Z Factory entered the scene and began producing the Royal Oak 15400, introducing several key improvements. The case and bracelet finishing were refined, giving the watch a more premium feel on the wrist. The dial’s texture became more three-dimensional, and the thickness was reduced to around 9.8mm, closer to the genuine model. The hands and logo on the dial also started to show a more realistic “metallic presence.”

At this stage, both J12 and Z Factory were using a Miyota 9015 base movement with an added 3120-style bridge plate.

Built Alike (2021–Today)

In this phase, APS Factory has become the dominant player. Although Z Factory later released an upgraded version of the 15400, APS has gained broader recognition in the market. Its in-house developed integrated super clone 3120 movement has reached stable mass production, marking a significant leap forward. APS has also made multiple upgrades to the dial texture and embossing, making it appear more refined and dimensional. The bracelet construction and finishing have been further optimized for a more authentic feel.

Today, if you wear an APS replica 15400 on your wrist, people would have no idea it’s a high-end replica.
